EU and MA’AN Visit Development Initiatives in the Jenin Cluster
As part of the “Endurance” Programme, funded by the European Union and implemented by MA’AN Development Center in partnership with the Palestinian Agricultural Institutions Coalition, a delegation from the European Union and MA’AN conducted a field visit to the Jenin Cluster to explore a number of initiatives responding to the priorities identified through the Cluster Development Plan and contributing to community resilience and sustainable economic and social development.
The visit included projects supported through grants to the private sector, community-based organisations and local authorities, with a focus on strengthening agricultural production, promoting innovation and modern agricultural technologies, improving infrastructure, and creating economic opportunities, particularly for women and youth. The delegation also visited initiatives supporting local organisations working on women’s empowerment and support to families in the targeted communities.
A key component of the visit was the solar energy system supporting the operation of the water well in Jalboun, which is approximately 300 metres deep and provides water for domestic and agricultural use to around ten surrounding villages. The project contributes to reducing water costs, improving access to water, and promoting more efficient and sustainable use of energy and natural resources, thereby supporting water and agricultural resilience.
Together, these initiatives reflect an approach to inclusive and sustainable rural development that connects access to land and water with agricultural innovation, renewable energy, economic empowerment of women and youth, and strengthened partnerships with the private sector, Community Based Organizations CBOs and Local Government Units LGUs.
The interventions respond to the recommendations and priorities identified through the Cluster Development Plan for year 2025, which was developed through a participatory process involving municipalities and local communities. The plan aims to translate locally identified priorities into practical interventions that strengthen resilience, improve livelihoods and contribute to sustainable economic and social development across the Jenin Cluster.
