Strengthening Mental Health and Protection: MA’AN Development Center Concludes Psychoeducation Sessions for Displaced Women and Girls in Deir al-Balah
MA’AN Development Center has concluded psychoeducation sessions for displaced women and girls in Gaza’s Middle Area, specifically at Al-Sitt Amira displacement camp in Deir al-Balah. The sessions were held as part of the project “Empowering Displaced Women and Girls in the Gaza Strip through Leadership, Protection, and Community Action,” implemented by MA’AN in partnership with UN Women and funded by the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF).
These sessions form part of MA’AN’s efforts to strengthen protection and psychosocial support services for displaced women and girls in the Gaza Strip by providing a safe, supportive space that helps alleviate the daily pressures and challenges arising from the dire humanitarian conditions.
Implemented from 19 April to 5 July 2026 through 12 training groups, each comprising 20 participants, the psychoeducation programme focused on equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills to understand the impacts of crises and psychological stress, as well as common reactions to these experiences. It also strengthened their ability to manage stress and anxiety, regulate emotions, practise self-care, and apply the principles of psychological first aid.
The sessions used interactive approaches that enabled participants to share their experiences and acquire practical tools, while fully upholding the principles of protection, do no harm, and respect for privacy. The programme targeted different age groups—girls aged 13–17, young women aged 18–29, and women over 30—addressing their specific needs and supporting their psychological well-being. Through these programmes, MA’AN reaffirms its commitment to empowering displaced women and girls and strengthening their capacity to face challenges, contributing to more cohesive communities that are better able to recover and remain resilient.
MA’AN Development Center continues its efforts to empower displaced women and girls and strengthen their ability to cope with challenges by providing integrated protection and psychosocial support services, helping build communities with greater cohesion and capacity to adapt and recover.
