Enhancing Access to and Safe Use of Water in Jalboun Village, Jenin Governorate

As part of MA’AN Development Center’s efforts to strengthen the resilience of local communities and improve sustainable access to essential resources, a solar energy system was established in Jalboun Village, Jenin Governorate, in cooperation with MA’AN, Marj Ibn Amer Joint Municipality, and Jalboun Village Council, under the “Endurance” Project, funded by the European Union.
The establishment of the solar energy system responds to a critical need in the village: ensuring more sustainable and safe access to water for agricultural and domestic use. The public water well in Jalboun relies on electric pumps to extract and distribute water to beneficiaries, which increases costs for the Village Council as well as for farmers and families, creating a significant challenge for agricultural activities in the area.
By providing a solar energy system to operate the well’s water pumps, the project contributes to ensuring a sustainable source of energy for water extraction, reducing reliance on conventional electricity, and lowering the operational costs of pumping and distributing water. This, in turn, helps reduce the cost of water supplied to farmers in Jalboun and neighbouring villages.
The project also represents a practical model for linking renewable energy with water resource management and agricultural development, by utilizing a clean and renewable energy source to operate a vital facility directly connected to agricultural production and the daily needs of the local population.
MA’AN Development Center emphasizes that investing in renewable energy solutions and sustainable infrastructure is an important component of advancing development that is better equipped to respond to environmental and economic challenges, improve the efficiency of natural resource use, and support local communities in developing sustainable solutions to their essential needs.
