MA’AN Conducts a Volunteer Day at the Ka’abneh School in the Jordan Valley

On 17 March 2013, MA’AN conducted a volunteer day in the Jordan Valley in conjunction with Ramallah Friends School. The trip brought teenage students from the Friends School to al-Ka’abneh, a school outside Jericho that MA’AN built five years ago.  Over 60 students from neighboring herding communities attend the school, in a village with extremely high poverty rates.

Twenty high school students from the Friends School, equipped with tools and other materials, visited the school to do voluntary work and play with the children. First, students from both schools worked together to paint various photos on the outside walls of the caravan school. Later, Friends students facilitated fun activities such as face painting for the Ka’abneh students. The students then began work on improving the school’s play area.  A truck unloaded sand and students from Friends used hoes to evenly distribute the sand over a large area. At the end of the day, food and drinks were provided to all the students, who were happy about the day’s activities and the opportunity to meet other young people from outside their communities.
