Two Community Initiatives to Empower Women and Improve Protection in Shelters in Khan Younis and the Middle Area

As part of the project “Enhancing the ability of Palestinian refugees to influence their living conditions”, implemented by the MA’AN Development Center in partnership with GIZ, the Community Change Agents team carried out two initiatives in Khan Younis and the Middle Area. These initiatives aimed to empower women and improve protection and support for them inside shelters. The initiatives focused on creating multi-purpose rooms in Al-Mawasi and Al-Aklouk camps.
These rooms give women’s committees a space to organize community and awareness activities about #women’s rights and issues. Each committee is made up of seven women from the displaced community who follow up on women’s needs and provide support. The initiatives also included furnishing the rooms and holding training workshops to build the committees’ skills in community support, so that women can play a stronger #leadership role in the shelters. Together, the initiatives improved the living and emotional conditions of about 4,943 women and displaced people, with the participation of 23 young people (including 9 young women) alongside the Change Agents team.
