the Applied Research Institute – Ma’an, in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture and with funding from HEKS/EPER, implemented an activity to rehabilitate and restore five ponds used for collecting spring water in the village of Wadi Fukin.
The ponds, each with a capacity ranging between 350–400 cubic meters, were restored to reduce water loss caused by cracks in the old structures that could no longer retain water for extended periods. These ponds are used for the daily irrigation of crops, contributing to improved agricultural productivity and sustainability.
Around ten families, who rely primarily on farming as their sole source of income, benefited directly from this intervention, thereby strengthening their resilience and ability to remain steadfast on their land.
This activity forms part of a broader series of interventions carried out by Ma’an in the western rural areas of Bethlehem Governorate, aimed at supporting farmers and developing agricultural infrastructure.
