As part of the Integrated WASH Project for returnees and residents in temporary shelters in Gaza, funded by the (oPt HF), MA’AN Development Center carried out an important activity to safely close open household toilets and sewage pits.
The project focused on Al-Zawaida and Deir Al-Balah in the Middle Area, where 600 dangerous pits were closed. These pits posed serious risks to families, affecting health and safety.
During the activity, community relief committees formed through the project held awareness sessions for families living nearby. The sessions taught people the importance of safely closing pits, reporting any nearby dangerous pits, and ensuring closed pits are not reopened.
This intervention helps improve public health and safety and highlights the importance of involving the local community in addressing environmental and health challenges in Gaza.
