The Protection Team at MA’AN Development Center continues to implement a series of protection and psychosocial support activities for displaced children and families. These efforts fall within the framework of emergency psychosocial support and child protection services for children and caregivers affected by the ongoing conflict and displacement in Gaza, funded by UNICEF, amid the severe humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
The project targets 20 displacement camps across North Gaza, Gaza City, the Middle Area, and Khan Younis, by providing comprehensive protection services for children and caregivers, including:
Providing safe and appropriate emergency psychosocial support services.
Protecting children from the psychological and social risks resulting from conflict and displacement.
Promoting the well-being of children and caregivers and empowering them with coping mechanisms.
Forming community protection committees inside the camps and enhancing their capacities through training and community participation.
Tangible results within 4 months of intervention:
Reaching 9,715 children (5,272 girls and 4,443 boys) through case management services, speech therapy, psychological first aid, psychosocial support, life skills development, and recreational activities.
Involving 2,079 caregivers (1,329 women and 750 men) in specialized awareness sessions on child protection and the risks of suspicious objects.
Distributing identification bracelets to approximately 5,000 children to reduce family separation during displacement.
Distributing diapers to 191 children identified through case management.
Distributing 231 packages of summer clothing to beneficiary children.
Providing 80 shelter tents to displaced families.
Publishing and distributing awareness materials on protection issues and the risks of war remnants.
Community-based interventions for enhanced prevention:
The team is also conducting community awareness sessions targeting various groups, focusing on protection issues during crises, such as family separation, psychological first aid, risks of war remnants, prevention methods, and raising community awareness.
These efforts reflect MA’AN’s commitment to supporting the most vulnerable groups and strengthening the resilience of the local community, in collaboration with local and international partners.
