Combating Insects and Rodents… Community Initiatives to Promote a Healthier and Safer Environment in Displacement Sites

Combating the spread of insects and rodents has become a shared priority across several community initiatives being implemented under the “Building Resilient Communities” project in displacement sites, as this issue poses health and environmental risks that affect residents’ safety and living conditions, particularly the most vulnerable groups.
This issue was selected based on community consultations conducted by Protection Committees with residents in different locations. Despite the varying locations and conditions, insect and rodent control emerged as a common need identified by the targeted communities, reflecting the scale of the problem and its direct impact on the daily lives of displaced families.
Collectively, the initiatives targeted around 400 families, reaching approximately 2,440 beneficiaries, with priority given to families and groups most exposed to risks. The initiatives included providing supplies and tools to help families reduce the risks associated with insects and rodents and improve their living conditions in displacement sites.
The distributions were also accompanied by awareness-raising activities for targeted families on the safe and proper use of insecticides and rodent traps, as well as preventive practices to reduce the spread of pests. Families also received guidance on appropriate methods for preserving and storing food and protecting it from contamination, helping them make better use of the provided materials and contributing to healthier and safer living conditions within displacement sites.
