Conclusion of the Remedial Education Program… An educational experience combining learning, interaction, and temporary employment opportunities to help improve the living conditions of Palestinian families

MA’AN Development Center, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, concluded the Remedial Education Program in villages west of Ramallah. The program was implemented over 20 working days with the aim of supporting students in core subjects, addressing learning gaps, and compensating for learning loss resulting from the disruption and irregularity of the educational process during the past period.
The program adopted a variety of interactive teaching methods, including learning through play, group activities, drama and role-playing, and simplified educational tools, alongside remedial classes in core subjects, with safeguarding and protection integrated as a key component. These approaches helped make the learning process more engaging and enjoyable for students. A number of participants demonstrated noticeable improvement in subjects they had previously struggled with and became more confident, interactive, and engaged in the classroom.
The program concluded with feedback sessions involving a group of teachers/facilitators and students. The sessions reflected on the experience from different perspectives, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and lessons learned, while also listening to students’ views on the activities and teaching methods that supported their learning most effectively.
The program also highlighted the capacities and competencies of the teachers and facilitators, who made significant efforts to ensure the success of the remedial education activities. They also benefited from the Cash for Work intervention implemented by MA’AN alongside the education program. This provided them with a practical opportunity to apply their educational knowledge and skills, develop new approaches to working with students, classroom management, and interactive teaching, while also offering temporary employment that supported them and contributed to improving the living conditions of their families.
The program contributes to MA’AN Development Center’s objectives and to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented in partnership with Oxfam.
