As part of the ongoing support to school environmental clubs through the Growing Sustainable Practices in Schools Project, MA’AN Development Center has delivered a comprehensive package of essential supplies to environmental clubs in 12 schools. This intervention comes in partnership with the Belgian Agency for International Cooperation (Enabel), funded by the Belgian Government, and in coordination with the Environment Quality Authority (EQA) and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoE).
This initiative aims to empower students to implement a range of school-based environmental activities, including compost production, plastic waste sorting, establishing medicinal plant gardens, and creating green walls, among other initiatives that promote sustainable development concepts and encourage active participation. These efforts contribute to fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and strengthening institutional practices within the school environment.
The supplies provided to schools and education directorates included stationery, recycling materials, waste sorting bins, mural painting supplies, as well as agricultural tools and equipment, first aid kits, and uniforms for environmental club students. In addition, composting units were delivered to 25 schools to support hands-on implementation of sustainable environmental practices.
In the upcoming phase, MA’AN Development Center will continue to support schools by providing fruit tree seedlings, medicinal and ornamental plants, irrigation networks, and organic fertilizers, further the sustainability of environmental and agricultural activities in schools.
As part of the project activities, educational greenhouses will be established in 13 schools, fully equipped with essential systems such as irrigation networks and water tanks. This will be complemented by practical and theoretical training sessions on greenhouse management, aimed at enhancing students’ sustainable agricultural skills and promoting their application within the school setting.
