MA’AN Development Center Conducts Specialized Training on Child Protection Mechanisms in Gaza
The Child Protection Team at MAAN Development Center, in coordination with the Child Protection Working Group, conducted a specialized training on child protection identification and referral mechanisms. This initiative comes as part of efforts to strengthen the skills of field staff and empower the local community to identify children at risk of child protection threats and to apply approved referral pathways.
The training targeted 500 participants, including members of community committees and protection committees in displacement camps, staff from various sectors within the Center (education, health, water and sanitation, and protection), as well as protection staff from partner organizations and specialists in the field of disability. The training was delivered through 20 training groups, each consisting of one training day, across the governorates of Gaza, Deir Al-Balah, and Khan Younis, enhancing integration and coordination among actors in the child protection sector.
The training program focused on introducing child protection risks, with particular attention to vulnerable groups such as separated and unaccompanied children and children with disabilities, in addition to identification and referral mechanisms and safe referral pathways within the complex humanitarian context in the Gaza Strip.
This training is part of the activities of the Emergency Psychosocial Support Services and Child Protection Project for children and caregivers affected by ongoing conflict and displacement in Gaza. The project is implemented in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and aims to build the capacities of community leaders and professionals and reduce protection risks facing children in the most vulnerable communities, reaffirming our Center’s commitment to providing a safe and protective environment for children amid the severe humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
