Partnership for the Environment: Volunteer Day to Plant the Environmental Garden at Um Al-Toot Reserve
As part of ongoing efforts to raise environmental awareness and protect natural resources, MA’AN Development Center, Local Communities Foundation, and Umm al-Tout Village Council, with generous support from Bank of Palestine, organized a volunteer day to plant the environmental garden in Umm al-Tout Nature Reserve. The event involved a group of volunteers interested in environmental protection and promoting sustainability.
The activity included creating an environmental trail within the reserve, where participants learned about local wild plants and their importance in maintaining ecological balance. Volunteers also collected seedlings from the reserve in a scientific way that protects the natural vegetation and does not harm the ecosystem. They actively participated in planting and arranging the seedlings in the environmental garden, supporting plant diversity and the site’s sustainability.
The volunteer day also featured a special awareness workshop led by environmental expert Dr. Walid Al-Basha, covering topics such as the importance of biodiversity, the role of wild plants in maintaining ecosystems, and best practices for sustainable agriculture and natural resource conservation. The workshop helped connect practical activities with scientific knowledge, enhancing the volunteers’ environmental awareness.
The environmental garden serves as an educational space to spread environmental culture and encourage the local community, especially youth, to engage in environmental initiatives and volunteer work. Umm al-Tout Nature Reserve is an important natural site that hosts native wild plants, helps protect biodiversity, prevents land degradation, and supports the sustainability of natural resources.
This volunteer day demonstrates that collaboration between supporting institutions, the local community, and volunteers is key to environmental protection. Every seedling planted today represents a real investment in a more balanced and sustainable environmental future.
