MAA’AN Development Center Participates in Monitoring Emergency Water and Sanitation Repairs in Jenin
As part of the urgent interventions to support Jenin Municipality in addressing the ongoing damage to its infrastructure, the MA’AN Development Center, together with a delegation from the United Nations OCHA, participated in a meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Jenin, Mr. Mahmoud Sabaaneh, to follow up on the emergency maintenance of the water and sewage networks in the city and its camp.
This intervention comes within MA’AN’s efforts to strengthen the capacity of local institutions to respond quickly to the damage caused by the ongoing military operations. MA’AN provided Jenin Municipality with essential materials needed for the emergency repair of the water and sewage networks, and followed up on the implementation mechanisms on the ground to ensure faster maintenance work and reduce the impact on residents.
During the meeting, Eng. Khayriyeh Souqieh, Director of the Water Department, outlined the main challenges, including power outages during pumping hours, which prevent water from reaching some neighborhoods according to the planned schedule. She also highlighted the municipality’s need for additional pumps to increase the amount of water supplied to different areas of the city.
The meeting was attended by municipal council members Mohammad Al-Sayyed and Abdallah Abdallah, as well as the Director of Health Mohammad Heifawi and the Director of Public Relations Basheer Matahin.
MA’AN Development Center reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its work with local and international partners to support emergency interventions and improve essential services for residents of Jenin city and its camp during these difficult circumstances.
