MA’AN Development Center, with the support of UNICEF, continues the implementation of the “Supporting Education, Wellbeing, and Leadership Skills Development for Children in Safe Learning Environments” project in the Middle Area and Khan Younis governorates, marking the start of the 2025–2026 academic year in early September.
Education Spaces Section
The project is being implemented across 13 temporary learning spaces, which have launched a range of activities aimed at enhancing the learning process and providing a safe and supportive environment for children.
The project has successfully reached 6,184 children from grades 1 to 4, supported by 156 staff members working directly with students. These teams include space coordinators, teachers, safety and security officers, and guards.
The project aims to compensate for learning losses caused by school closures over the past two years by creating an alternative, safe learning environment based on active learning methods that encourage children to think, participate, and explore—strengthening their academic and social skills.
It also places special emphasis on building the capacities of teachers and safety staff through intensive training programs that enable them to provide educational and psychosocial support, particularly in times of emergency.
Community Engagement Section
In addition, the project dedicates efforts to working with adolescents aged 15–18, through a series of intensive training sessions focused on developing their life and leadership skills.
Following the training, the project selected the most motivated and capable adolescents to begin a peer education phase, during which they transfer their acquired knowledge and experiences to their peers—enhancing their roles as young, active leaders within their communities.
