As part of the Integrated WASH Intervention Project for returnees and displaced families in temporary shelters in Gaza, implemented by MA’AN Development Center with funding from the (oPtHF), MA’AN carried out an activity to safely close open household toilets and sewage pits.
The intervention targeted the areas of Al-Zawaida and Deir Al-Balah in the Middle Area, where 600 dangerous pits were closed. These pits had posed serious risks to families, causing health and safety problems.
During the activity, community relief committees formed through the project organized awareness sessions for families living near the sites. The sessions explained the importance of safely closing the pits, reporting nearby dangerous pits, and ensuring that closed pits are not reopened.
