‘Empowering Communities to Advocate for Security and Justice in Hebron and the Jordan Valley’

From August 6th to 9th 2014, 20 residents of Area C communities from the Southern Hebron Hills were trained in introductory human rights and occupation law, as well as in correct methods of monitoring and documenting violations of these laws where they occur for legal and awareness-raising purposes. The Cordaid-funded project ‘Empowering Communities to Advocate for Security and Justice in Hebron and the Jordan Valley’ seeks to make residents of Area C more able to tangibly assert their right to existence and resistance in a context where they face multiple critical challenges, such as the demolition of houses, blatant killings, settler violence and theft, and/or land confiscation by Israeli military forces, for example. Both the South Hebron and Jordan Valley training groups are now finalising their comprehensive proposals for community-led initiatives in their localities to begin to advocate for their rights; these initiatives will begin to be implemented during the up-coming exciting month, so watch this space for updates!
