A new Web Page was developed on MA'AN's Web Site. The Web Page includes articles in both English and Arabic on women & development, food processing, water & environment, pest management, organic farming and other general development issues. George Kurzom (MA'AN's Research and Information Unit Coordinator) completed a research paper in Arabic titled "Prospects for a self sustainable Palestinian economic alternative".
The paper discusses political and international policies and strategies regarding the West Bank and Gaza Strip economies. It analyses the unofficial economic operations and suggests certain self-sustainable economic alternatives.

MA'AN established a recreational unit for children in the Women Centre at Beita village near Nablus. The unit is equipped with books for children ages 7 to 14, educational games (language games, strategy games, thinking games and experimenting games). A computer was also installed and a number of CDs were bought for the children. The project is funded by the South African Representative Office and the Australian Embassy. |

Based on MA'AN's pre-qualification status with the Welfare Association Consortium, MA'AN was pre-qualified by the WAC to apply for the 1st cycle of the Block Grant. In Partnership with World Vision, MA'AN submitted a proposal for the 1st cycle of the Block Grant. |

Arafat Asfour (Treasurer of MA'AN) and Nael Younis (Trainer at MA'AN Gaza) traveled to Canada to participate in a training course in Project Management. The course was organized by MI International (Memorial University) as part of a four year program with MA'AN in Capacity Building. The workshop lasted from March 1st till March 15, and was funded by CIDA through ACCC. The participants also conducted Community Awareness meetings in local Universities and Schools. |

Mr. George Kurzom (MA'AN's Research and Information Unit Coordinator) is preparing a study on the use of Agricultural Chemical Pesticides in the West Bank and Gaza. The study discusses the effects of the Chemical Pesticides used in the area and introduces a number of non-chemical pest management alternatives. The study will be published in June. |

MA'AN started working on establishing grey water gardens and wells in the village of Beita near Nablus, in continuation to its project with the South African Representative Office. The project is expected to be completed in June 99. |
